Happy Friday! We made it to the end of the week and it looks like Spring is going to make it’s grand appearance this weekend! How many people do you think will be out in shorts and sandals in the GTA on Saturday? My guess is that my husband will be one of them even though the snow hasn’t entirely melted yet. In celebration of Spring and the fact that it’s Friday, I want you all to leave dinner to me! Yup… my treat! In our house, Friday’s are meant for fun and easy dinners that come together in no time or that require no cooking at all! As someone who loves to be in the kitchen, even I need a cooking break from time to time and as a working mom – even more so! So rather than sharing a recipe with you all today, I’m going to list out some of our FAVOURITE foods to order in.
“What’s for dinner? You pick. Anything but that. Nope not that either…” How many times have you had this conversation with your partner? Deciding on what to order in can sometimes be more work than actually making it yourself, right? It doesn’t help that often times, the options are slim and you may find that you’re eating from the same old pizza shop every week. My hope is that with these suggestions, you’ll be able to think outside of the
pizza box. These restaurants in the Durham Region are all amazing and the best part of all is that by ordering from them, you’re supporting a local business. How awesome is that!
Frosty Johns is by far one of our favourite pubs! It’s family friendly and the food is awesome! My personal favourite is their Chicken Curry Bowl and my husband always orders the Rib & Wing combo. They don’t offer delivery, but if you call ahead you can pick up your order. This is perfect if you’re not interested in waiting in line because WARNING – unless you’re there super early, there’s a solid chance that the parking lot will be packed.
Conveniently – burger delight is in the same plaza as Frosty Johns… so if you can’t seem to agree on what to order in… perhaps you can have both!! These burgers were stellar and definitely satisfied the craving. They also serve funnel cakes… and who doesn’t love funnel cakes?? This could be tonight’s dinner because I’m drooling at the thought.
If you want the best pita of your life that’s the size of a football, this is the place to go. We’ve tried other pitas, but no one does it like Pita Deli. Their fattoush is like no other and while I do make a mean Tzatziki, this one is extra garlicky and delish. Two of these pitas can happily feed a family of 4…. but let’s just say that I usually eat one football sized pita to myself. They’re that good and yes they’re totally worth it!
In my humble opinion, no one does Fish and Chips like P& B in Oshawa. Growing up, this was the go to place for ordering fish and chips and to this day, they never disappoint! They’ve been open since 1980 and definitely know what they’re doing! So if you’re looking for a good Fish & Chips restaurant (which is hard to come by), this is the place to go!
If you’re craving Asian cuisine but can’t decide between sushi or pad thai, Azian covers it all! The price points are great and they have a variety on their menu! It’s one of our favourite Asian food spots and has been since they opened their doors!
If you’re craving Mexian and Latin American Food, Mexian Lindo always delivers! Admittedly, the restaraunt doesnt look like a big deal from the outside, but as soon as you walk in you automatically feel like you’re in Mexico. So if you’re wanting to go on vacation down south but cant afford the trip… Mexican Lindo is the next best option. (Side note, my stomach is legit growling right now). The food is authentic and delicious and if you’ve never been there before… you need to go. Now.
There you have it – my top 6 favourite places to eat in the Durham Region. So before you think about leaving and heading to the big city to enjoy a good meal think again. These are just some of the many amazing local and small food businesses in Durham and I highly recommend that you give them a try if you haven’t already! Support local and buon appetito!
